The Red Gazelle is Mighty Gazelle's racing machine in the F-Zero series, first appearing as his vehicle of choice in F-Zero X. The machine was created by the Cyber Stick, Inc. company, who also built Mighty Gazelle. Due to Mighty Gazelle's mechanical and durable body, the Red Gazelle has a weak body frame, but a strong boost and an average grip.

This F-Zero machine was manufactured by Cyber Stick, Inc., the same company that resurrected the Mighty Gazelle as a cyborg. In line with Mighty Gazelle's mechanical body, they designed a technically superior machine model but were forced to sacrifice body strength to some degree.

F-Zero: GP Legend

The Red Gazelle becomes available after clearing the gold cup on expert. It has strong cornering and acceleration but lacks high top speed.

F-Zero Climax

The Red Gazelle becomes available after winning the bronze cup on novice overall.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

The Red Gazelle is a randomly obtained sticker in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Design and namesake

Design

The Red Gazelle falls along the archetype of the straight and narrow vehicles. Its body is a long, metallic structure with an open nose with a cooling vent both in the nose and on top of the neck. Near the middle of the sides is the machine's name printed in white. In the very back contains the lone engine with the cockpit right in front of it. Two arms with drag fins stick out along the sides near the cockpit with a fin sticking out the top with an antelope head printed on the sides. The machine is primarily red with orange trim and stripes and black edging around the canopy.

Name

The Red Gazelle is comprised of the words red, a primary color in the color wheel and gazelle, a small antelope. The name is also shared with red gazelle, an extinct species of gazelle.

Correlation

As the machine name suggests, the Red Gazelle is indeed red. The design itself doesn't heavily relate to the animal it's named after but rather reflects on a real-life gazelle's nimble abilities.

Differences between games

The Red Gazelle almost never changes in appearance going from game to game with the exception of its transition to F-Zero: GP Legend. Here, the side arms are shortened in length making the drag fins appear closer to the machine.

Trivia

  • The Red Gazelle's camera in F-Zero GX is slow to re-center for some unknown reason.
  • In the final episode of the anime, Clank Hughes is seen driving the Red Gazelle with the Mobile Task Force.
    • Interestingly, Mighty Gazelle is Clank's father Roy Hughes reborn as a cyborg.
    • The Red Gazelle also shares the same boost and grip ratings of Clank's modified Dragon Bird.
