The Astro Robin was manufactured by Team Lightning Bolt, an extremely famous team that makes up part of F-Zero's old guard. Its high-tech lightweight design was implemented to match its pilot's "lightning" method of racing, and it has extremely advanced control components. In order to satisfy Jack Levin's huge female fan base, the team installed many micro-cameras throughout the cockpit that broadcast Jack from all different angles during the races. |
F-Zero: GP Legend
The Astro Robin becomes available after clearing Jack Levin's story mode. It's got a good acceleration and strong turning but a slow speed.
F-Zero Climax
The Astro Robin becomes available after clearing the gold cup on novice or higher.
Design and namesake
Design
The Astro Robin takes on a fairly orthodox vehicle design. The body consists of a fairly long and wide base with a triangular nose and two protruding sides that have cooling vents on the front whilst having exhaust ports on the back and has the machine's name printed in yellow. The cockpit is positioned close to the front with a slanted portion behind it. The engines are arranged horizontally in the back with a two layer spoiler on their cover. The machine's color is blue with a yellow stripe running down the middle. Its overall design has similarities to a traditional formula car.
Name
The Astro Robin combines the words astro, a prefix relating to space and robin, a term for birds in the saxicolinae subfamily.
Correlation
The astro aspect of Astro Robin relates to the intergalactic setting of F-Zero. The robin aspect is exaggerated through the vehicle's bird-like design with the sides resembling wings and the nose resembling a beak.
Differences between games
In F-Zero X, the wings were more rounded in the front and were primarily yellow. The stripe also only ran from the nose to the cockpit leaving the area behind the canopy completely blue. F-Zero GX straightened the front ends out and had two different kinds of vents built into the wings. Two more vents were found on top of and on the tip of the nose. Moving into F-Zero: GP Legend, the wings became shorter, wider and triangular.
