Vehicle Images

So, most of the Vehicle Images are not rendered. I'll start working on them right now, but if anyone would like to help me, go ahead. I want all the images to have a standard system, so for naming, they should all follow this format:

Blue_Falcon.png

Just the name of the machine with underscores for spaces. Don't just use no space at all, I want them all standard. We should probably focus on only the machines in F-Zero GX/AX right now, the other machines are mainly sprites and don't really need rendering.

I am working on this. I have A-C done, or at least most of them. I am using the same format, also. SuperAlpaca 21:13, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Domain

What do we want for a domain name?

We have a few options for the base:

  • fzerowiki
  • mutecity
  • f-zerowiki
  • falconpunch

and we have a few options for the suffix:

  • .org
  • .info
  • .net
  • .com
  • .co
  • .me

Feel free to add other suggestions to either part of the domain. Tacopill 18:28, 4 May 2011 (UTC).

I know .org websites cost more to keep the domain, but I like fzerowiki.org the best. Can we have hyphens in the name? f-zerowiki.org sounds the best to me.Zenox 23:21, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
All suggestions, hyphen or not, are currently available. I prefer fzerowiki.org personally (with or without the hyphen). Whichever we choose, we should purchase it before moving public. I'd rather not let a list of potential domains become public information, in case someone else buys them before we get a chance to (this has happened several times before to others). --Moydow T 01:10, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
I don't know if I can join in, but I usually like .org or .info for wiki suffixes, mainly because they represent what a wiki does, original information by a lot of people. I'd say have the name be the name of the wiki, unless somebody else has a great reason for it not to be. 726? (. L 21:53, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
Moydow, actually one is not available. I forget which one, but we can use a website to steal buy it. I prefer fzerowiki.org personally. SuperAlpaca 22:50, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
Personally, i would like to see .info get more usage out in the internet. Tacopill 21:51, 7 May 2011 (UTC).
A poll has been set up on the NIWA Forums. Voting is open for one week. --Moydow T 20:57, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
I have voted! Tacopill 16:09, 14 May 2011 (UTC).

SVG Images

Would it be possible to add SVG images to the list of allowed file types on this wiki? Thanks. ~SuperHamster Talk 20:06, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

They're already permitted. The list of file types on Special:Upload is merely a list of preferred and prohibited file types, and not the only file types allowed. Thanks for helping out the wiki! --Moydow T 20:53, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
No problem, glad to help. But there still is a problem - when I select an SVG file from my computer to upload, the list of prohibited file types gets highlighted red, and no file is selected. In other words, it won't let me upload SVG files. The preferred file types work fine for me, though. ~SuperHamster Talk 21:01, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
I know that over at Nookipedia, I had an identical problem. SVGs weren't listed in either the prohibited or preferred file types lists, but I still couldn't upload them. It wasn't until SVGs were included in the preferred file types list that I could upload them, so I'm guessing that the same will have to happen here for SVGs to work. ~SuperHamster Talk 21:05, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
Hm, that's unusual. Anyway, I've added SVG to the preferred file types, so it should work now. --Moydow T 21:28, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
Great, thanks, it's working fine now :) ~SuperHamster Talk 21:37, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
No problem. Thanks for pointing that out. --Moydow T 00:43, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

F-Zero Arcade Game

I've never actually played F-Zero or followed the series closely, so this question that sometimes pops up when trying to create an account or add external links to pages has been getting to me all day: what is the name of the F-Zero arcade game? I guessed that it was F-Zero AX, but apparently it isn't... ~SuperHamster Talk 06:57, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

That's the correct answer, which means there may be a typo or similar in the extension's settings. I'll check it out. --Moydow T 12:20, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Fixed. --Moydow T 12:44, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

To-Do List

I already added the infoboxes to the game articles, please take it off of the to-do list. Wraith

Done. Tacopill 22:47, 17 August 2011 (UTC).

Courses

Should we have articles, infoboxes and navboxes for courses? For example, Big Hand. Tacopill 23:32, 5 September 2011 (UTC).

  • bump* Also, should we do tracks and such? Tacopill 19:20, 1 October 2011 (UTC).
What if we just add a section to the world articles about the tracks in each one (something like Red Canyon does, maybe)? If we do that, we may be able to make some good-sized articles out of the world ones. I don't know about Big Hand (never played X). Is it its own world? Or is it a course independent of a world? Popenotorious 19:32, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
That sounds good. I have never played X either...so, I couldn't help on that one.
If the track notable enough for it's own article, then I hope someone can expand it one day. If not, then I recommend creating an "independent track article" (with a better name). Tacopill 21:30, 1 October 2011 (UTC).
I play X, could I help somehow? Captain Falcon 15:11, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
Yes, you can. You could expand on all info about the game from characters to courses (the very subject), there is much work to do. --Triphoria (C·E) 21:48, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
What Triphoria says is true. We can use all the help we can get. :). Tacopill 04:18, 10 December 2011 (UTC).
Just got X on my Wii VC, so I'll try to help. I'll be gone on the weekend, though. Pokémonultimate 07:41, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
That's fine, any help at any time is always welcome. Also, welcome to the wiki :) --Moydow T 07:44, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Destubbing articles

Hi. In order to join NIWA we need less than 75% stubs, therefore, I believe it is in best interest to talk about how to destub certain articles. Some articles that come to mind are:

These could easily be expanded. How do you guys suggest we improve these articles? --Triphoria (C·E) 22:46, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Smash Bros. Dojo!, the official site of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, should make a good primary reference for our Brawl article. Other good Smash Bros. sources might be IGN.com and Gamespot.com, both of which feature information on all three Smash Bros. games.
Other than Smash Bros. and consoles, though, one area of the wiki that I think could be improved is the character articles. I've destubbed a few of those myself, and I could share some of the references I used a lot here if anyone is interested. Popenotorious 23:15, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
I have been working to improve those as well. --Triphoria (C·E) 21:46, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
Smash Bros. and consoles don't need too much expansion, though. Super Nintendo Entertainment System, for example, is complete as far as F-Zero Wiki is concerned. Consoles and Smash Bros. only need some basic info about the thing itself, some detail about its relevance to F-Zero, and a link to either SmashWiki or NintendoWiki under 'External links'. --Moydow T 22:38, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

What about adding game appearances on articles about courses, characters, and the like? I see it on other wikis and it is helpful, plus a good way to beef up some stubs. -SuperEffective

Article needed?

I know of the F-Zero Grand Prix stage in Melee, but this edit got me thinking about the races themselves. Is there enough knowledge in the canon to establish an article on the races themselves? Tacopill 01:32, 18 December 2011 (UTC).

We could probably do that. One should post a sample race article in the sandbox so we can decide from there. --Triphoria (C·E) 04:57, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Uploading images under various licenses

'Ello - I've noticed that when uploading images, users are only able to choose from two licensing options: Template:Copyright and Template:WikimediaImage, the latter not existing. Could someone who has the ability to edit the list of licenses do so so that the choices for licenses include the licenses listed at Category:Copyright tags? Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk 02:02, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Done --Moydow T 03:59, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
Awesome, thanks :) ~SuperHamster Talk 04:24, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

policy pages

Alright, I have updated my NIWA Progress report to show that we now have at least one trained staff person who's primary responisibltiy is this wiki, not staff on other wiki's, etc. Something I feel is important.

Next up, what I feel we need to do is to complete:

#4. Your wiki should be operational, have a "complete" layout, and a competent active staff. A complete layout should be functional, aesthetically pleasing, and have all obvious features in place. No "under construction" or "content coming soon" labels should be present. Structural, Administration, and Policy Pages should be clearly defined and accessible.

Specifically, the part of the "Policy Pages". Which bring me to the questions:

  1. What policy pages do we have that need to be improved?
  2. What policy pages do we not have that need to be created?

Tacopill 16:42, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

I actually have quite a few ideas for policy pages. For clearly define and accessible, we can probably make a template. When I get the chance, I'll go ahead and post an idea like set up on Quality Standards, I'm going to paste all the policies (some of which might not be fit for this wiki) on a page, so we can vote on them. Other than quality standards, is there anything else someone has in mind? --Triphoria (C·E) 01:04, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
Do Help pages count as policy pages? If so, many need to be created (according to this tool, there are no help pages on the wiki at all). A "Getting Started" page might be a good first help page. Also, it would probably be a good idea to define a deletion policy (a "Pages for deletion" page as well as deletion guidelines, for instance) and a policy regarding the scope of the wiki.
As for extant policy pages needing improvement, I'd like to point out F-Zero Wiki:Privacy policy, which is blank right now. I'm not certain whether this policy is supposed to be about privacy for the wiki's users or its subjects (real people we have articles on, I mean), so we should probably fill it out soon. Popenotorious 21:49, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
Help pages don't count as policy pages, but are none-the-less as important. We should be getting them set up as well.
Privacy policy is very important, as it covers the data on the people editing the wiki as well. Also having a disclaimer policy might help as well...
Come to think of it, many come to mind :D. Tacopill 00:31, 11 January 2012 (UTC).

Community Portal

Shouldn't F-Zero Wiki:Community Portal be linked in the "community" sidebox? Popenotorious 21:52, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

That is changable here. If you are looking for permission to do so, you may have it. Tacopill 00:32, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
I was :D And it's done. Popenotorious 13:53, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
Sounds good. :D. Tacopill 21:04, 11 January 2012 (UTC).

article organization

So, I was looking at the Samurai Goroh article, and noticed the template {{pilots}} was under the {{wikipedia-deleted}} template, which itself was under {{character succession}}. Which made me wonder: Do we currently have any article-organization schemes? Tacopill 18:56, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

Not that I'm aware of, so here goes:
  1. {{Stub}}/{{Image}}, etc.
  2. Article body
  3. References
  4. {{wikipedia-deleted}} where applicable
  5. {{character succession}}/{{vehicle succession}} (should be made)
  6. {{pilots}}/{{machines}}/others
  7. Game navboxes in order of release
  8. Others where necessary
Opinions? --Moydow T 19:39, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
You got my approval. I would help out, with organizing all the articles and such. --Starphoria (C·E) 00:13, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
Sounds good. :). Tacopill 00:44, 10 February 2012 (UTC).
A little late, but I like it! Wraith 16:16, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Anime episodes

We're now covering individual articles on anime episodes, so we should probably come up with a standard article layout for these. I'm proposing something similar to Bulbapedia's layout (example):

  1. {{stub}}, etc.
  2. Infobox, opening paragraph
  3. Synopsis
  4. Characters
    • Debuts
  5. Trivia
    • Errors, dub edits, etc.
  6. {{Episode succession}}

I'm also wondering if, for article titles, we should use the episode's title, or alphanumeric codes similar to Bulbapedia's. Thoughts? --Moydow T 01:19, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

The Pokémon animé has over 700 episodes, F-Zero had 51, and more importantly, only one season. I would opt for episode titles. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by ToastUltimatum (talk · contributions).
Agreed. Tacopill 23:37, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
That makes sense. The only thing is, many episodes were never officially translated into English. I'm assuming we'd then use the roumaji of the Japanese titles? --Moydow T 00:48, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
Romanji works. Do they have official romanizations? I hear there are different ways/schools/etc. Tacopill 01:25, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
I haven't heard of any official romanisations. As far as I know, Hepburn is the most common form; it's used on Wikipedia, Bulbapedia, and others. Kunrei-shiki is the "official standard", but it's rarely used, even by the Japanese government themselves, so I suggest we use the former. --Moydow T 02:14, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
Alright, sounds good. *thumbs up* Tacopill 00:29, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
What are roumaji and Hepburn? Are they forms of transalations from Japanese to English? For the titles, I'm using just plain English transalations unless you guys say otherwise. Screwdriver
Hepburn romanisation is one method of converting Japanese text (キャプテンファルコン) into the Latin alphabet (Kyaputen Farukon - Captain Falcon). It's what websites such as this use for titles that are only officially known in Japanese (i.e. there's no English translations, like with many episodes of GP Legend). --Moydow T 07:24, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Questionable sources

Two issues. First a lot of content on this wiki is uncited. Things like the Skull's real name, Mrs Arrow's real name, Jody's father as mentioned in both her article and Tanaka's. I've spent the better part of a week scouring through the internet trying to find the source of this information because it is not from any F-Zero game nor any F-Zero manual. So far the only possibility that exists is the now defunct fzerox.com. However as the site has been dead for years I see no way of actually reading what the site used to say. Does anyone know where this information comes from?

The second issue is that of allgame.com. We cite it as a reference several times but I don't think it's a reliable source of information. All the F-Zero entries on the site were made by one guy, and some of them seem to contain fannon, throwing suspicion on every other page written by that individual. The best example of this is Zoda's page which states that he's the same character from Startropics. Black Shadow's page is in a similar state. I propose that we cut out any and all references to this site. Will Keaton --108.181.107.189 23:59, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
