Hailing from the planet Huckmine, Gomar & Shioh (ゴマー&シオー, Gomā to Shiō[?]) are members of the Furikake race, a people known for their unusual custom of pairing for life. As soon as they emerge from their seeds pods (which may be dormant for centuries), they find a partner and pair up with that individual and do not leave them until they both find mates to marry and as a result have new partners. Gomar and Shioh are two such examples of this. Gomar is the short one who boasts an impressive intellect, whereas Shioh is tall and boasts a tall physique. Both are very envious of the others abilities, but get along well. When one begins to say something, the other will finish his sentence.

The intelligent Gomar is very short and envies the stature of Shioh, while Shioh is a tall creature who admires Gomar greatly and depends entirely on his decision-making. This peculiar pair works together, deftly manipulating their F-ZERO machine built for two.

Although they perform as one person, the F-Zero committee at first denied their entry due to considering them as two individuals. However, thanks to the EAD foundation, their entry was put up to vote and they were allowed to enter by a 9 to 8 vote. They have since worked together in the Twin Noritta. Despite the presence of two cockpits, they drive together in perfect synch. However, their career in the F-Zero GP may soon end, as they are going to get married the next year, which will mean they will both have new partners for life.

These Furikake people always act as one person. They are a very strange race. While the rules don't allow pilots to use machines for two riders, they were approved by the committee. Their machine is the lightest on the circuit.

In game description
On the planet Huckmine, the Furikake people have an odd custom where they pair up with a partner as soon as they're born and do everything together. The intelligent Gomar is very short and envies the stature of Shioh, while Shioh is a tall creature who admires Gomar greatly and depends entirely on his decision-making. This peculiar pair works together, deftly manipulating their F-ZERO machine built for two. However, these two partners who have been together as long as they can remember will both marry next year, thereby undergoing a partner change. This event has given rise to many rumors about this F-ZERO Grand Prix being their last together.

Trivia

  • The names surrounding these two characters are probably intended to be puns on Japanese food and seasonings. Shioh is pronounced almost the same as the Japanese word for salt (塩 しお shio), Gomar sounds similar to "goma" (胡麻 ごま) which is the Japanese name for sesame seeds. Salt and sesame seeds are often paired seasonings in Japanese cuisine (there even being a compound word for it: 胡麻塩 ごましお "goma-shio"), much like the two F-Zero characters. The name of their species in Japanese is ふりかける furikakeru, which is identical to a Japanese verb which refers to the act of sprinkling food seasonings such as salt, pepper etc.
  • The name of their ship, the Twin Noritta, may be a reference to "nori" (海苔 のり) which is a kind of edible seaweed used in many Japanese dishes; whereas the maker of their ship (according to F-Zero GX) is the "Onigiri Yard Co.", Onigiri (おにぎり) being the Japanese word for riceball (nori is frequently wrapped around onigiri).
  • Lastly, the name of the engine on their ship (in F-Zero GX) is KOM-E246x2 - "kome" is the Japanese word for rice (米 こめ), whereas 246 can be read, using goro-awase, (a very common form of play on words/numbers in Japanese where one derives a word from a pair of numbers based on the many Japanese pronunciations of the numbers; for more details: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_wordplay#Goroawase) as 似寄り (により niyori, 2 = ni 4 = yo 6 = ri), a Japanese word which describes two things/people that are very similar. The x2 at the end may be to further emphasize their similarity by referencing multiplication.
