FZFW:Samurai Goroh (Anime)
- This article is about Anime Universe Samurai Goroh. For the Main Universe character with the same name, see Samurai Goroh.
Samurai Goroh is the pilot of the Fire Stingray, and Lisa Brilliant's husband. A master swordsman, he is the leader of a group of space bandits which reside on the planet Cryton, and is known as one of the best bandits in the galaxy. Besides piloting an F-Zero machine, he also owns a battleship called the Fire Needle.
Personality
While he is a thief, and gang leader and carries a katana, Samurai Goroh has a sense of honor. As such, he appears to only steal from people who can afford to be stolen from, avoids harming people, and has never killed anybody. Because of his moral stance, he is often on good terms with Ryu Suzaku, and the two occasionally work together. At one point, he even tries to convince Ryu to join the bandits, promising a life of adventure, but Ryu kindly declines. Conversely, Goroh is openly appalled by senseless violence, which often puts him at odds with fellow gang member and explosives-fanatic Antonio Guster.
The anime version of Samurai Goroh is more calm and collected than his Mainverse counterpart. He is also significantly less self-centered, and often serves as a mentor to Ryu when in need.
Though it is clear that Goroh loves his wife, Lisa, they have an established rule in which they can never betray each other or get too involved in each other's business. Despite this, the two will come to each other's aid should they need it.
History
Pre-2201
Samurai Goroh and his gang resided on the planet Cryton. At some point, he became the husband of Lisa Brilliant.
2201
Debuting in Lap 4, Samurai Goroh initially helped Ryu Suzaku to find the fake Samurai Goroh (Bibiribitch), after the real Goroh was framed for attacking a transport ship and stealing a rare medicine that could only be found on the planet Wondo. Though Bibiribitch and his men escaped, Goroh seemingly betrayed Ryu, leaving him tied up beside the Dragon Bird. However, the rope restraint would release as soon as Goroh and Sasuke left the scene with the transport ship's treasure. Ryu then found that the rare medicine was within a case on his Dragon Bird, showing that Goroh is not coldhearted.
2202
In Lap 13, there was an instance in which Lisa Brilliant urged Goroh to reconsider his trust in Antonio Guster who had been too reckless, in her view. But she ultimately backed off upon not getting through to her husband, who had faith in Antonio due to their close bond.
Towards the few final episodes of the anime, Goroh had rescued Miss Killer from the depths of space, after Black Shadow no longer saw a use for her when she regained her memories. He alerted Ryu by sending Sasuke to deliver the message, and fought against Dark Million to buy time for Ryu to appear.
Goroh, in the Fire Needle, was even present during during the final battle against Dark Million in Lap 51, assisting Ryu and the Elite Mobile Task Force. His wife, Lisa Brilliant, in her Excellent Queen battleship, accompanied him.
2207
Goroh was later seen with Lisa seen at the new Grand Prix in the year 2207. After Super Arrow makes his presence known at the Grand Prix, Goroh says "What a loudmouth." prompting Lisa to respond with "You don't say that often, hubby. Are you feeling alright?"
F-Zero GP Legend (GBA game)

A notorious bandit who roams the galaxy from his base at Red Canyon. Somehow, he seems to have decided that Captain Falcon is his rival. |
In the F-Zero GP Legend GBA game, Samurai Goroh is a playable character with his machine, the Fire Stingray. He is also featured as a Story Mode character.
Note: The GPL manual bio contradicts the anime, as does the rest of the Story Mode. Animeverse Samurai Goroh should be from Cryton, which is not connected to Red Canyon.
F-Zero GP Legend Story Mode
Due to the game being released only 8 episodes into the anime's original JP airtime, and the game being loosely based on the anime, the Story Mode is not canon.

Trivia
- On one of the DVD covers for the anime, Goroh is seen brandishing his katana with doll-like charms of both himself and Lisa attached to the sheath. This is the only time such a thing is seen.
- The anime version of Samurai Goroh was redesigned to be more rugged, handsome and overall more "heroic" looking than his mainline counterpart, who in comparison is more stout and thuggish looking. Goroh's design in the anime was one of the more extensively retooled ones from his original video game appearance.
- Despite Goroh apparently viewing Falcon as a rival, similar to their Mainverse counterparts, this dynamic is not explored in the anime.
- In the F-Zero GP Legend GBA game, during the non-canon Story Mode, their dynamic is more parallel to their Mainverse counterparts. This is, however, somewhat out of character for the Animeverse Goroh, who was usually depicted as cool and collected in the anime.
- The only time the Goroh/Falcon rivalry is brought up in the anime is during a Bart's F-Zero Classroom segment, in which 'Bart' laughs at the thought.
- The rivalry is also brought up in F-Zero Climax's pilot profile for Goroh.
- F-Zero Climax's episode recap for Lap 4 claims that Goroh went by an alias of "Kojiro." Neither Operation Spin Booster nor Dreadopp and Zedopp's fan subs pick up on this, nor is the name audibly heard.
